Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Christmas—festivals that have shaped the annual cycle for centuries. For many, they are an integral part of life, linked to familiar rituals. This is also true for host Guido Cantz: he has always celebrated Pentecost in his local Catholic parish. But this time, he wants to know more: What exactly is being celebrated? And how do other people observe this day?
Together with holiday expert Gabriel Engel, he embarks on a road trip through Germany. A journey between living traditions and biblical origins. They encounter unusual characters like the Palatinate Pentecost Quack and curious objects like the Bavarian Soup Fart—and stumble upon surprising traditions surrounding the Pentecost season.
The search for clues ultimately leads far back to biblical Jerusalem, to the origins of the festival.
Not everyone celebrates this festival consciously. Yet the stories and ideas behind it continue to resonate to this day. Whether Guido Cantz ultimately rediscovers Pentecost for himself remains to be seen.
